I know your predecessors weren’t at all merciful with us, bringing with them civil unrest, political chaos and mayhem, but it would not be fair to put pressure on you to make our lives great again, magically, just because the ticker moved from 6 to 7. However, we realize you may need help from us to put the past into perspective and launch into the future with more hope and definitely way more understanding of each other and the challenges we face socially, economically and spiritually. It is through this letter that I intend to reach out to you an inform you that we will do our best to cooperate as long as you do too.
First, lets get everyone safely home during New Year’s festivities. I know that is a hard bargain to sell but we promise to drink repsonsibly. We also promise to not shoot firearms at the sky and kill innocent bystanders with stray bullets. Also, we shall be cautious around fireworks and open flames to avoid burs and property damages. The only thing we ask in return is that the house be ready by the 6th of January weekend. We need a win here. We want to go home.
Secondly, any ill will remains contained in 2016 and will not roll over to you. Help us let bygones be bygones, ensuring our hearts heal from the many hits we took in the past. We know it wasn’t all horrible and that there were wondeful memories but the bad permeates the good. Show us how to reach a balance, to avoid hating on 2016, and to focus on what good events are yet to come.
Finally, the tide of our bad luck needs to turn. Give us the courage to find the win-wins; to pick the right battles and to concentrate on building a better us. These past years have been one of those character and strength growth periods that seem insurmountable. Lead us through the tunnel and show us that there is light in the darkness. If not we will be forever lost as time progresses without forgiving and forgetting. No one wants to get stuck in the past.
