Sitting in the couch,
Coughing, sneezing,
Waiting, just waiting for a reprieve.
The congestion worsens
Tightening my head in a vice,
Pressurizing my sinuses
Which are about to explode.
My body aches,
To the point I can feel the weight of my soul.
My trusty companion,
Woman’s best bud,
Lies on my chest.
He is making sure I am cozy and warm.
Misery loves company
Especially the kind that will lick your pain away,
The kind that patiently waits
Until the moment playtime is possible.
Although he doesn’t know I’m sick,
He pushes me off the comfort zone,
Begging to throw him a toy or a ball.
He entertains me, and keeps me active.
Herds my every move
As if this action would help my antibodies fight the cold faster.
After a hard day’s work
My nurse takes a break,
Curls up and falls asleep
On the soft and fluffy couch.
He slumbers through the cacophony of sounds my noise and throat make,
And is glad to hear that I am still by his side.
I feel a lot better knowing he’s here too.
