Covid-19 vaccines and boosters. The Jan 6th insurrection. Justice for Ahmaud. The cancelation of Chris Noth, Jeff Garlin and Donald Trump. Post pandemic schoold shootings. The AWS and Facebook outages. These were a few of the events that shocked the nation as the world slowly peeled away from stay at home orders and quarantines. Things start to go back to normal.
I didn’t like it.
After months of having to stand six feet apart, humanity started to inch closer and closer. Restaurants went back to full capacity. The movie theaters finally reopened. Disney got in legal trouble over streaming royalties with ScarJo over Black Widow; movie star contracts will now carry clauses to address this issue. Office workers negotiated return to work flexibility. No industry emerged unscathed. Society forever changed by a tiny little virus and the indifference of the people not affected by it.
It’s hard to recall all the things that happened in 2021 because it was such a blurr. Work kept me busy, away from the WordPress keyboard for most of the fall. Not even the launch of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg’s new umbrella inspired me to post. There wasn’t a lot to share. No joy. Nothing particularly amusing. I got used to the work-eat-sleep repeat cycle. Working from home felt like its own prison.
At least my stand up/sit down desk has casters…
I have no clue what the future holds, and for once I’m not too worried about it. With the second layoff past me, and my new job keeping me busy, the uncertainty of it all doesn’t phase me. New normal or not, life goes on. We adapt. We improve. We push forward. We endure. This too shall pass, and I shall enjoy it safely, as much as possible.
Stay frosty, friends! Happy Holidays!
