The Wicked + The Divine (Image)

Twelve Gods reappear every 90 years to bring balance to the world. In their latest cycle, they decide to come back as musician superstars, possessing young people to fulfill the prophecy. The catch? After two years pass, they all die. Being chosen is both a blessing and a curse. With great power, these humans must make the best of their time on Earth. To paraphrase the back cover: They will be loved and they will be hated. Soon, they will be gone.

This Eisner Award nominated comic is equal parts drama and flair. The artwork alone is mesmerizing, and the story boards are really impressive because all the female characters rock and kick ass! For the superhero groupies, there is enough magical powers and nemesis standoffs for the content to not feel foreign, with the twists and turns that are somewhat expected but still catch you off guard. This is not your traditional origin story, it is written as the beginning of the end.

Pick up a copy at your nearest comic book store and join Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie and Mathew Wilson (Phonogram, Young Avengers) in what could be the most memorable and disrupting cycle of The Wicked + The Divine.
