Here’s Looking At You Kid

Dear 25 Year Old Me,

First, let me start by thanking you for all those years you saved money in your stock accounts. Not only did we get the stock option bonus for completing a higher level degree (paid for by our employer) but you were able to manage your portfolio in a way that yielded gains. It was this money that kept your family afloat during the hard times and even allowed you to become a rental property owner.

Although you have many questions about the future, I’d rather not spoil it for you. The person you have become is definitely worth the hardship and strife, which did not out weigh the good times. If it wasn’t for your resilience and temperate demeanor we wouldn’t be as well of as we are now. Your family and friends appreciate the effort and your constant support. So far, no major screw ups. Hehe

Hang in there buddy!

Here’s the tricky part: keep up the hope! By age 30 you may not have all that you wanted nor did you accomplish everything BUT it all worked out. That intuition of yours is getting us to places we never dreamt of reaching, so always keep your mind and your heart open. Opportunities have come and gone without truly ever disappearing; you did let go of what didn’t serve you and some times those things were returned to you. Regardless, you are loved and well respected even by those who are no longer active members of your inner circle. There are new and exciting people in your future too! Remember that.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hiding any great truths or bad news from you. I just want you to experience it all with less bias, being open to suggestions and taking it all in stride. Knowing thay you hate surprises, you must be seething right now as you read this, which is why I am keeping the mystery alive; I don’t want to steer you in any particular direction. Our life is awesome!

Don’t waste any time dwelling in the anxiety thay comes with turning 30 any sooner than necessary. Love has found you many time throughout your life and it will never stop seeking you. Share your thoughts and emotions with those dear to you.  Care for others with devotion and passion. Write about your story. Good things will soon follow.

Whenever you see grandpa again tell him he was right. We did the right thing by moving to the Pacific Northwest and leaving our family of origin  behind to pursue our dreams. They will be okay and although they will miss you, they love to visit and enjoy the view. Those mountains are a glorious scenery, aren’t they?

Considering you took a leap of faith and crossed 3,000 miles to get here, no one could ever claim that you are not into adventure. The extended family you have cultivated over the years has grown under your support and tutelage. Keep it up, as that kindness will harvest a great bounty.

One last thing: The future is full of wonderful stories and heart wrenching moments. Never waiver in your efforts to smile everyday and conquer the world. No one ever said becoming an adult would be easy. You are your best weapon, your best friend and your greatest cheerleader. However you see it you will be doing what is best for you. The rest will follow.

Me, an older and hopefully wiser version of yourself

P.S. Buy Disney stock. Hehe
